We played some very good soccer this weekend but once again we came up a bit short in the final against the Folsom Fury. They are one of the very few teams that have as much athleticism and skill as our team. The primary reason that we lost was the Folsom team has a better coach. I not suggesting that Lothar or Sean have been anything other than outstanding coaches. I am suggesting that their coaches have done a better job over the years than I have at training our team to play a selfless team game. In addition, I really screwed up the substitutions patterns while trying dig out the the hole we found ourselves in in the second half. That loss was on me.
It is all about the technical discipline of the Folsom team. Although they have a couple of exceptional athletes on their team, they always play team ball. They are relentless and they seldom lose their shape. When they are down a goal they still play a very simple passing game. They never dribble into the defense. Most importantly, during a high pitched game, they do not pick up needless yellow cards by whining about calls.
As the season heads to finish with Association Cup, I am going work hard and I am going to demand more disciplined team play. I am sure that you do not like 2nd place finishes anymore that I do. We can do much better.
